3 Questions you should ask your SEO Expert?

Sunday, January 30, 2011

I get lot of request each day asking for an SEO Job but I normally do not take any SEO work for clients but I see that many of my clients complain about the SEO people they have hired have not done anything about SEO and have charged them quite a good amount of money. So how could they have saved that money? By asking few simple questions to the so called SEO experts.
  1. How long they have been into SEO?
The first and the most important thing you should understand is SEO is not an overnight task and they have to be in it for quite a long period of time for making any success. So ask the same to your SEO provider? How long have you been doing this? Verify the same with their domain who is information and see if they have been doing SEO for so long.
  2. How much they have worked SEOed themselves rather than clients?
The main reason I do not take up SEO job is I am too busy with SEO of my own forum and blog and if I can get my site ranked well I would make more money than any client can pay me. Do they think the same and have their own site or product which they rank very well.
  3. How transparent are they when it comes to working for you?
The next thing you should ask is how they will go about getting good rankings for your site. It may not be exactly what they would do but mainly the strategy. Let them do some keyword research or even go beyond it to analyze your competitors’ site and their strategy. If they talk about too many jargons like PageRank / NoFollow get familiar with them.
To add to this question many SEO experts (as they liked to be called) tend to give that this is something where they have some backdoor entry into Google and can rank you pretty well in Google by paying them and they cannot disclose anything beyond this. This is complete bullshit and you should never even think about replying to such peoples’ emails. Google never wants their users to get results influenced by such sick minded people and never even encourages such people.
Bonus Question: What they know about what not to do in SEO?
People always like bonus and it’s my turn now to give one. Ask them about what they should avoid when it comes to SEO and see how well they are aware of blackhat SEO and how they avoid them.

Apart from clients there will be many SEO Experts (:D) reading this and so don’t be fooled if people impress you very well with the above questions and there are still more you can do is read testimonials of previous clients and try contacting them using phone numbers if any or even using email address.

There is no exact science when it comes to SEO but then its also not rocket science and anybody and everybody can know about it if not be an expert. Get yourself SEOBook by Aaron Wall and start reading it. It is certainly the best book on SEO and will certainly not rip your money off. Not only a must have for anybody getting into SEO outsourcing but also for SEO experts. It’s a good value for money.

Basic SEO Tactics - Social Media

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

Many a times am asked what are the basic SEO tactics to know and keep in mind. Well if one starts to explain this then the list can be a little overwhelming. However to keep matters a little simple I would suggest the below so as to be a little more effective:
  • Key Word Research And Optimization: Before going into any detail you would first require to do a proper keyword research. Key words are the search words that your target audience would be keying into search sites say for instance Google. The key word research would be done in two parts. At first level you need to check on what does your target audience search. The second part you need to check out on is what keywords do your competitors optimist. Usually the two would be more or less similar however it is good to check out. Post your findings you then need to decide on which key words you will emphasis on and optimize. These would be in tandem with the brand personality and image that you may already have or you may want to create. You will need to be clear on what is the brand philosophy because without this you will not be able to be in-sync with the rest of the brand - customer perception.
  • On-Page Content Keyword Optimization: Once you have frozen on your key words you need to then make it a conscious effort to utilize the same words. This is known as key word density. However it does not mean that you use the words so often that the reader has no other words to look at. Too much of density makes search spiders also suspicious and they may choose to not follow your page. The algorithms in the search engines are very much tuned to such spams. They can detect such things and can almost ban your page as a matter of speaking. Hence you do use the words but in a creative manner.
  • File Name: While working at server level you will have many files to upload and save. This could be either for dynamic data or static information. The search engine scans through these as well. Do not name files as file1, file2 and so on. Instead use this space as your key holder. Have the correct File name that the pages within suggest.
  • META Keyword And META Description Tag: When you edit HTML you will notice that you have spaces for Meta words. Use these appropriately. These are important for search engines. They understand the programme language and you can use these to the fullest.
  • Page Title And H1 Headline: I would encourage you to be creative. However do not be so creative that the keywords are missing from your titles, headlines and sub heads.
  • Image Alt Tag: Many a times I have noticed that while saving the images we do not mention the proper names instead we call them image1, image2 and so on. A very important fact is that you are missing out on great amount of search spider attraction material.
  • Link Building: This is another important aspect of SEO. While working it is imperative to have a Link Strategy in mind as well. Links direct and guide the search engine crawlers towards your main page / blog / site. Links work as arrow indicators on highway for the speeding spiders and crawlers. This does not mean that you start to have link packages and get into some aggressive link farming trap. The moment we get into this zone the algorithms at search engine start to flag this as they recognize spamming actions. Additionally you need to be careful on the part from where the links come to your page / site / blog. It is good if they come from a high traffic page. At the same time that page should not have too many links or else again the danger of neutralizing the effect comes in. Allow me to explain: Let's consider two options. Let's call two pages as 'Page A' and 'Page B' respectively. Page A has high value traffic and too many links. While Page has good traffic not as high as Page A but is healthy traffic and has less than 20 links. When you will submit you link to both Page A and Page B you will notice that the search engine considers the trust value as equal. The reason being that too many links cause the search engine to start looking at spam information. Hence Link farms etc get into negative count. Add to this your link should be supported by proper copy matter and keywords that point towards your link. There are many more factors to consider before jumping into the back-link strategy.

10 Simple Tips To Get 250,000 Page Views Per Month

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

When we started our business 16 months ago we decided to use a blog as the central marketing tool for our business. We did it because we didn’t really have any money for advertising and we never really believed that attending networking events would work for us. We placed the blog at the center of our website and only had one commodity on our hands to make it a success….time.

It’s been a long journey but 16 months later we now get 250,000 pageviews to our site per month, in the last year we have brought in over $500,000 in business as a direct result of the blog and the business operates in 2 countries and our content has been picked up all over the world. We’ve largely used social media to promote the blog and grow that audience and today I wanted to share some of those tips with you and even though you might not have a business attached to your blog you’ll hopefully gain some good insights in to what works for business blogging….
  1. Get some professional help at the start: We paid a small amount of money to get our blog designed by a professional at the start as well as getting somebody to add in the proper SEO plugins. Since then we haven’t really touched it design wise and have instead focused on the content. If you are serious about blogging or creating a business around your blog then you should invest a small amount of money at the start making it look professional.
  2. Integrate Facebook wherever you can: Facebook is the most important social media tool we use in terms of bringing traffic to our site. It accounts for just over 18% of the traffic on our site and the 11,000 odd Facebook likes we have are people who come back to our site on a repeat basis to consume our content. Make it easy to share your content through Facebook and if the content is good enough it will spread like wildfire.
  3. Forget about getting traffic from Twitter: Many people get obsessed with Twitter as a social media tool that drives traffic but let me save you lots of time and energy now because it simply does not. Less than 1% of our traffic comes from Twitter on a monthly basis despite some of our stories getting 100s of Retweets. You can certainly share the odd link through Twitter to gain some new readers but it is not the magic formula that you have been looking for.
  4. The old blogging tricks still work best: Read many of the great posts on there or on any of the other great blogging advice sites and they’ll give you great advice like to make sure you add catchy titles (probably why you are reading this post in the first place), to write often and to guest post on other blogs. These are old pieces of advice but in a world where people are obsessed with social media and the new tools those are the tools that by far and away work the best. They are the easy wins.
  5. Give everything away for free: As a business we sell advice on social media. We also do a very strange thing in that we give that advice away for free on the blog all the time. There is nothing in our heads that we keep for ourselves but instead focus on sharing as much of that knowledge as possible. By giving valuable advice away you make sure that people keep coming back to your blog for more advice and that’s how you build and audience. People are selfish, if they are coming to your blog they want something for free and that is what you will have to offer.
  6. Be Social In The Real World: A huge amount of people who read our blog are people that we have met in the real world. Being social online is one thing but forging a social relationship with somebody in the real world is still far more powerful than anything. Try and attend conferences within your niche, meet people with similar interests and if relevant share your blog with them. If you are lucky enough to be able to speak at any events then work your blog in to the presentation and pitch yourself as the person of authority on your given subject.
  7. Use rich media content if at all possible: Text is great and it’s an important part of blogging but not everybody is a good writer and even people who can write should try and support their content with rich media content if possible. I think it helps you stand out form the crowd. What do I mean by rich media content? Photos, videos, podcasts, diagrams, slidehows or presentations. The technology is there now for you to post most of these things for free and they’ll push your content out even further to new platforms.
  8. RSS is still the dream subscriber: These days you’ll see plenty of ways to subscribe to blogs including email, Twitter and Facebook to name but a few but one stands head and shoulders above all the others for me and it’s the oldest one in the list…RSS. Getting an RSS subscriber is getting somebody who is totally committed to receiving your content every single day. I cherish RSS readers in a way that I would never think about Twitter followers or Facebook likes. The social subscribers are doing it as an impulse but an RSS reader is somebody who wants to get your content every single time you publish it instantly. You should take RSS subscribers over everything else in my opinion.
  9. Build A passionate community around your blog: This is by far the hardest point on the whole list and there isn’t really any written rule on how to achieve it. The one thing I think you have to do most is be nice to everybody and reply to as many comments as you physically can. Comments on your blog, comments on Twitter, comments on Facebook or Youtube or wherever the person has left a comment. People fly through the web these days pausing for a second at a time on sites these days so if they are taking time to leave a comment oon your blog then the very least you can do is stop and answer them. Building community take a lot of time but you should never underestimate the power of word of mouth when it comes to your blog or business and a passionate community is just about the most powerful thing around today.
  10. Never give people the hard sell through social media: Once you build a community or a large audience for your site the temptation is always there to try and sell to them or to push your products. We never ever write blog posts asking people to use our services. Make no mistake that they can find our services within one click if they are looking for them but we’ll never push them because people can smell the hard sell a mile away and they’ll never go for it and you’ll end up pushing them away instead. The idea with social media is to engage people and have a meaningful conversation with them. That is what works best in the long run.

Top Blog SEO Techniques to Use

Monday, January 24, 2011

Blog posts have been all the craze for quite some time and they have many internet marketing benefits but they have to be approached correctly. There are many search engine optimization elements that should be present with each blog post and it is important to realize this if you want your blog posts to go the extra mile.

Here are several top blog SEO techniques to use:
  • URL Structures: Often times a blog post will use programming language that looks like a string of characters or the entire title of your blog post. Either one really doesn’t do much for your SEO. The entire title is better than the random characters but ultimately you want to pull out your most important words from your title or even use keywords tastefully if they apply to your post and use those for your URL structure.
  • Internal Linking: If your blog is located on the URL or domain as your main website you can gain a great advantage by hyper linking keywords and linking them to some of you main product or service pages.
  • Plugins: Most of the blogging platforms have a large variety of SEO related plugins that will complete some of the SEO work for you so you don’t have to think about it.
  • Images: Images have a variety of advantages, everything from user experience to search engine marketing. Image search is a popular place to be visible in as well and by utilizing images in your posts and tagging them with keyword rich phrases in the alt tags you increase your chances of being visible in the photo search area.
  • Meta Info: Many blogging platforms out there now allow you to write custom meta information for individual blog posts which is just another area you can entice the search engines to ping you into the search result space.
Blogging every week for all businesses is important but it is also important to blog correctly so you are always maximizing your efforts online. Take the time to go the extra step with your blog posts and over time you will see much more activity happening from your hard work.

Can Social Bookmarking and SEO Complement Each Other?

Thursday, January 20, 2011

Search engine optimisation (SEO) campaigns and social bookmarking may not initially seem like strategies which can work together, but one expert suggests that combining the two can hold a range of benefits.

Writing a guest post for Search Engine Land, BlueGlass's Jordan Kasteler comments that "combining real-time social sharing with search engine optimisation tactics can give websites the indexing or popularity boost that it needs".

SEO strategies, he notes, should be kept simple. He recommends sticking to best practice guidelines for writing, as well as using locally-relevant keywords to boost search engine rankings.

Highlighting that organic rankings will last longer than popular stories on Digg, he suggests that by creating content that ticks both boxes, businesses can enjoy the best of both worlds.

And succeeding to get content on social networking platforms could also help to boost the site's exposure, thereby potentially increasing future rankings.

SEO Do’s and Don’ts

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is critical to your business being found online, here is some do’s and don’ts of how to get the most from SEO and Google.

  • Do practice safe SEO: Don’t get in to bed with an SEO business you don’t know well. Try and avoid the emerging market of cheap offshore SEO providers. Statistically speaking there is a good chance they engage in “black hat” SEO practices, such as link spamming, content masking and doorway pages. These underhanded tactics can have your website banned from Google.
  • Do be strategic: Work out which key words you want to rank for and make sure there is content on the website with these keywords in it.
  • Do get into blogging: A regularly updated blog enables a conversation between the human reader and Google to take place.
  • Do take advantage of available tools: Use Google Analytics to track the success of your SEO. This tool enables you analyse keyword rankings, time spent on site and bounce rates.
  • Don’t rush it: Quality SEO services take time. If a provider is promising results, chances are they can’t be trusted.
  • Don’t flood copy with keywords: While it’s important to feature keywords in your website copy try not to overdo it – flooding web copy attracts penalties.
  • Don’t inflate inbound links: Avoid trying to artificially inflate the inbound links to your site too quickly. This process should be a slow and considered approach over time.
  • Don’t fall for false claims: Never use a company that guarantees you number 1 on Google. No one can guarantee the exact position of a keyword.

Become an Internet Marketing Superstar

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

Becoming an internet marketing super star is not something that happens overnight; it requires hard work, dedication and a great deal of trial and error. The internet is wide and vast and it requires a great deal of commitment if you are going to venture into that space and be successful.
  • Motivation: For starters you have to want it…really bad. You have to be motivated to constantly learn because with every new tech start up comes a new approach to spreading your message. The search engines are always changing and new businesses are always popping up so you have to be motivated to learn the ever changing landscape.
  • Daily Education: It is a must to be able to educate yourself almost on a daily basis. Blogs and news sources are plentiful and if you want to progress in the search space you have to stay up to date with everything that is going on around you and that requires reading blogs and other news sources that report on changes and trends in the search space.
  • Willingness To Try: If you really want to learn you will almost have to have a test site where you can really experiment different SEO efforts. Sometimes having a hobby website that you can really push the search engine marketing boundaries (without going in the black of course) will give you some really valuable insight and experience through a hands on approach. You can read and learn all you want but until you put your hands on something concrete and experience the numbers going up you simply will not understand how great it feels to make a positive impact on a website.
  • Thinking Outside The Box: Internet marketing cookie cutter approaches simply won’t cut it in today’s online space. You really need to be able to put your thinking cap on and really think outside of the box if you want to pull in those targeted web visitors all while establishing a brand for yourself in the search space.
Even if you don’t want to be a “superstar” and just understand it than you still have to follow these best practices above because in today’s environment you have to be able to stand out and with that requires some very important education and thinking.

5 SEO Tips for Retail Websites

An online retail store contains products from various or niche manufacturers. A retail website can sell anything from toys, books, furniture, bags or perfumes. The best example of a retail website is Amazon, which lets you purchase almost anything under the sun. In order to generate leads, you need to drive quality traffic to the website. Search engine optimization is the most commonly used technique to drive traffic to the website. It is also the technique many webmasters are ignorant about. If misused, your website can get banned in the search engines.

Five SEO Tips for Retail Websites
  1. Target Niche Keywords: Quality traffic is defined as the visitors who are genuinely interested in the websites content. You can draw quality visitors to the website by targeting niche keywords. Lack of knowledge about SEO can be detrimental to this basic step of search engine optimization. Your target should be to analyze keywords from your niche and select the ones which are a perfect blend of competitiveness and popularity. Fiercely competitive keywords take over a year to rank. Thus, you should work on ranking well for several long tail keywords.
  2. Generate SEO Friendly URL’s: A retail website is bound to contain several hundred pages. With addition of various products, this number is going to increase. A Dynamic website is developed using a programming language whose URLs contain session ids. This kind of URL structure is not SEO friendly as the searchbots ignore them. Do not use special characters in the website URL except hyphen. Also, keep the URL structure common throughout the website.
  3. Add Fresh Content: Search engines love websites which get updated regularly. Webmasters have a good scope of adding a variety of non repetitive content to the retail websites. Content can be added in the form of product description, comparison with other products and consumer reviews. You need to ensure that the content doesn’t get repeated in the website. Do not stuff the content with keywords. A keyword should be distributed in the content 3-4 times at relevant places. Always write for the visitor and not for the search engines.
  4. Optimize the Images: Image optimization if a part of the on page optimization strategy. A retail website is full of product images which the search engine cannot read. You can use the alt attribute in the image tag and input relevant text. For e.g., if the product image consists of a Harry Potter book, the alt tag can read, Harry Potter- the Sorcerer’s Stone. Instead of reading a blank space, the search engines will encounter the above text. With thousands of images, image optimization is absolutely necessary for a retail website.
  5. Optimize PDF Files: It is common practice on a retail website to offer a product catalogue in the PDF format. If optimized well, a PDF file can rank faster than an html page. An image based PDF file is like an image to the search engines, who don’t read them. In order to rank well in search engines, text based PDF creators are more useful than the Image based PDF creators. You should always fill the document properties of a PDF file, especially the title. Lastly, keep the size of the PDF file to the minimum. This will ensure quick loading of the file.
All the SEO techniques applicable to a normal website can be used for a retail website. This includes off page optimization activities like link building and search engine marketing. A well optimized retail website not only increases the ROI but also enhances the user experience.

Facebook Moving Forward With Now 600 Million Users

Monday, January 17, 2011

Facebook’s advertising measurement tools have for a long time understated its demographics; however it appears that the site just hit the 600 million user mark.
Facebook added 100 mill users in just under 6 months, and of these users over one fifth of them were from the United States, which still remains the largest-represented country on face book.
Asia has also had growth since mid June last year, namely India, the Philippines and Indonesia Both Philippines & Indonesia are in the top 5 among countries represented on this site, but they also have a fraction of the number of users than in the United States.
However we are far more curious about whether this current fast pace of growth will continue, and if it does then for how long?
Can it move as fast as to say Facebook could reach 650 million users in March and 700 million in June this coming year? Growth in the United States is expected to calm down sometime in the near future and then the rest of the expansion will have to come from the other countries around the world. The very few of countries that face book hasn’t yet impacted seem to be the “swing votes” in concluding whether or not the current trajectory will continue?

7 Ways Social Media Will Change Your Business Forever

Saturday, January 15, 2011

Social media is one of the most powerful new marketing tools for business. In fact it is safe to say that if your business is not taken advantage of social media, then your business may get left behind in the dust. The proliferation of social media into our daily lives has exploded in 2009. Every day reveals a new form of social media from our phones to new social networks appearing on the Internet.

Some may argue social media today is chaotic with so many apps, widgets, countless features, and tools all fighting for a piece of the social media pie. However, like almost everything in business, there are key fundamentals that you’d need to address to give yourself a competitive edge in business.

The truth is the social media is continuously evolving. While many others try to keep up with these ever-changing factors, the savvy business owner should be creating a powerful social media presence that covers the essential areas of social media and creates a solid foundation for future growth.
  1. It’s All About The People And Communications: Social media is just that, social. Just as social media is creeping into business it is a much more rapid accepted by your target market that is continuously bombarded by this new media. As such, you need to make sure you have a solid presence on such social media platforms as Facebook and Twitter. Ideally, these starting networks will provide time to adjust and grow your social media exposure and provide a solid starting point to grow from. Social media is about connection and communication. The true globalization and amalgamation of social media behavior has opened up a large door of opportunity for businesses that are forward thinking enough to take advantage of the situation.
  2. The Perception Of Value And Trust: One of the key advantages of social media is that it breaks down the barriers that separate business from customer While many businesses hide behind this war as some sort of protection. Smart entrepreneurs take down that war and allow the target market to see behind the value. By doing so they create a warm rapport and build trust with their target market. Essentially, they are putting on a human face to their company and by developing closer connections to their customer base, they can increase sales and ultimately grow their profits using this medium.
  3. Connectivity, Convergence and Productivity: One of the major problems for businesses starting to social media is the fact that everything is so disconnected. For example, if you release a new article or blog post, it can take a while to manually post these two-faced book, twitter, or wherever else you are aggregating your information to. Thankfully, there are many ways to integrate and connect all the social media services into one funnel. Using services like Ping.fm you can post to one service, which then feeds your post to your many other social networks. Ping.fm for example supports over 40 different social media platforms. Believe me, this can be a major timesaver and can still help you get your message out to every single social network you may be involved with.
  4. The True Application Of Social Media: If you know anything about Facebook, you will know that Facebook apps are one of the primary ways that Facebook uses interact and get hooked on using the service. If you have a Facebook presence for your business, one area of social media you should consider is getting your own application built. You don’t have to have any programming or technical knowledge, as you can outsource this very easily. However, this can take some out of pocket startup capital to get going, but once it does it’s incredibly viral and powerful marketing tool for your business. Ideally, think of something to related to your business or target market that is fun and entertaining. Creating these apps is actually very simple to do and for some larger businesses that have taken this route, it has been incredibly lucrative.
  5. Creating a True Network and Community: As mentioned earlier, some business is high time the wall that separates the business from the customers. This wall really does create a barrier to communication and customer involvement as well as loyalty to your business. By taking advantage of social media and creating an actual network between all of the social networks that you are involved with, you can actually create a viral community that actually helps to promote your business. So make sure that in each social network you promote your other networks and openly invite your customers to join the other networks to stay informed.
  6. The Evolution Of Social Media Advertising: One thing you’ll find in social media is a lot of people advertising incorrectly. Twitter at is a great example of this. I see too many people sending out nothing but links trying to sell their products or services. However, any marketing expert will tell you that this is business suicide. In social media, direct advertising is often frowned upon because of the nature of social behavior. The savvy social media enhanced business owner will quickly realize that the soft sell approach works infinitely better than trying to communicate a powerful sales message in only 140 characters. By building a reputation of value and trust, as well as creating a solid rapport with your target market, you’ll have a much greater chance to convert the website visitors you will generate for your social media activities into an actual paying customers. That is not to say that cannot to use “Hooks” to draw interest into your promotions, that is just common sense. However, blatant hard sells will ultimately tarnish your reputation and damage any long-term prospects.
  7. Making Money – The Main Reason For Your Social Media Presence: For most people, social media is about being social and connecting with other like-minded people. For a business, our goal is to make money. It is our sole reason for existing. Often times it is hard for a business to break the social media bubble and resistance to business efforts. Unfortunately, among many social media purists, there is a common perception that all business should be banned from social media.
Of course, that is not only unrealistic but impractical. However, by taking the correct approach to social media by being personable and putting a human face on your business you have a much greater chance of creating a solid and profitable traffic and revenue stream in the long-term. Most businesses do this by branding the person rather than the business. For example, a lot of top CEOs and executives of companies are the “front man” for their businesses in terms of social media.

How Social Media has Changed SEO

Friday, January 14, 2011

Social media websites have spread like wildfire over the past couple of years. Today, so many people spend more time on Facebook, Twitter or some other social network than any other website.

Aside from connecting people, social networks also provide advertising opportunities. Take Facebook, for example. What do you do when you come across a website with half a billion active users? Develop Facebook Web promotion strategies and use the website as a marketing tool, of course.

It's not surprising to find so many businesses utilizing Facebook Web promotion these days.

In fact, lots of businesses have an FB page as their second homepage. So, the challenge here is how to use social media SEO to your business' advantage.

Social Media SEO

It's not so hard to advertise via Facebook Web promotion. FB and other social networks allow you to post ads, updates, pictures and videos in a snap. When it comes to search engine optimization (SEO), on the other hand, there is some doubt whether Facebook SEO is really effective. For one, this particular social media site uses the “nofollow” tag. This means that your backlinks from Facebook aren't given any value by search engine crawlers. Thus, those links aren't affecting your search engine rankings at all (but they will still give you traffic).

Facebook links may be nofollow, but this doesn't mean that the website completely doesn't have social media SEO opportunities. Here are a Facebook SEO tactics:

  • Post links to your website in less obtrusive areas. A good thing about Facebook Web promotion is that it presents ads and links in a rather subtle way. If you can notice, most of the ads on FB are at the right side. Although links can be found everywhere, they aren't slammed right in your face. By posting links only in your bio box, info tab, right side panel etc., you won't be turning off users by spammy messages. Thus, there are more chances of people checking out content in your site and linking to it.
  • Don't stop the posting. Many a time have companies felt excited about reaching fans via Facebook Web promotion, but find that the excitement dwindles after a month or two. Keep on posting --- send out daily posts, and write about interesting things regarding your business, services, and products. These posts can encourage conversation, likes, and comments. Besides, if all your status messages are all about your products and services, your page will lean more on spammy.
  • Give away free stuff. Almost everyone loves free stuff. Start a contest or coupon codes with enticing value to encourage fans to participate in your social media SEO campaign. If you get fans excited, they just might tell their family or friends and blog about it. This Facebook Web promotion tactic can result to more links pointing to your main site.
  • Don't hesitate to ask for a link. It never hurts to request, or even beg, for a link. Once you have a minimum of 25 fans, post an update and ask your fans to post a link pointing to your site on their blog. If they're truly your fans, chances are they'll help you out with this Facebook SEO strategy. To increase the chances of getting that link, give out coupon codes or other free items.

Hot to Get the Most Out of Google Adsense

If you look closely you’ll notice that on almost every single blog out there you’ll see something known as Google Adsense, If your unfamiliar with them and don’t know how they work, its rather quiet simple, you take some code place it in your blog and from there Ads are displayed from thousands of publishers who use Google Adworks and when someone clicks on one of those ads you make money.

If I had to guess I would say that at least 70 to 80 percent of people who use Google Adsense have no real clue how to maximize their profit with them, most people just set up some ads and place them on their site and don’t do anything else, if you are one of these people then you are not making as much as you should be by doing this and I’m going to explain some ways of how you can improve your profit with them.

First I want to point out that every blog will generate different amounts of money by using Google Adsense, this is because the Ads come from people who are paying Google Adwords to display them and some people pay more then others, so a blog about the sky might not pay as much then a blog about technology because the technology sector is much more competitive then the sky and people will pay more to have their ads displayed.

So how do we get an idea of the amount of money we can generate using Adsense when we are not allowed to discuss it?. Well one of the simplest ways is to use the Google Adwords External Keyword Tool. Using this tool is extremely simple, lets say you’ve got a blog about Computers and in the majority of your posts you use the word “Computers”, what you do is type “Computers” into the tool and press “Get More Keywords”, this will generate a list of several keywords that people are paying for, what you want to focus on is the green bar under “Advertiser Competition”, the higher the green bar, the more competitive that keyword is and the more money you’ll make if ads about that keyword are being displayed on your blog.

That sounds fairly straight forward doesn’t it? Now comes the question of targeting those keywords, most people think that there is no way to tell Google which Ads to display, this is a common myth surrounding Adsense, now you cannot exactly tell Google to display car ads on a biology blog, that simply will not happen, but lets say your using the word “Computers” in the majority of the posts you make and from what we can tell from the Adwords Tool the keyword “Computers” is very competitive and it should pay quiet well.

What you can do is place these two bits of code around the text that you want Google to target, the first one looks like this and the last one looks like this what these two tags will tell Google is that instead of taking every keyword on your blog, it will only take the keywords in the text between these two tags. This will refine how well Google displays ads on your site.

If your using Blogger or some other sort of blogging program the easiest way would be to wrap these two tags around the tag in your template, from there Google will only display ads based upon which keywords each of your posts have. Google will generally display ads based upon how much your keyword density is, so if your using the keyword “Computers” in the majority of your posts, you’ll get more relevant ads about Computers and we know that this keyword should pay quiet well and you’ll be making more money from it.

Now I want to cover one more tag that you can use with Google Adsense if you don’t want to use the two tags I just talked about, they have another tag which looks like this and when you wrap these tags around certain parts of your blog, Google will simply ignore all the keywords in those sections, as you can tell by doing this you get much more control over the type of ads that are being displayed and once you use these systems together you can start to maximize your potential profit with Google Adsense.

These few examples will help you increase the amount of money you get when someone clicks on your ads and it will allow Google to target the content on your site much better, by having more relevant ads on your site you should see your click through rate begin to go up.

The last thing you should be aware of is the colors of your ads, the size of your ads, and the frequency of the ads showing up on any given page. The first thing you want to do is make your ads blend in with the rest of the content, you don’t want to make people think all your after is a bunch of clicks, you want them to flow very nicely with the rest of your content, so if the majority of the links on your site are blue then make your Adsense links blue and if your text is black make the Adsense text black and so on.

The size of your ads also influences the amount of clicks your going to get, if you blatantly place huge ads all over your site people will start to trust you less and when you loose a readers trust you loose that much more clicks, its better to provide your users with quality content and ads that don’t say “HEY CLICK HERE”. Have a look at this particular blog and see how I’ve got my Adsense blocks laid out, as you’ll see they blend in quiet well, they obviously could blend in a little bit better because they do pop out a bit but they don’t scream at the user, this mixed with good quality content makes the stand out more acceptable.

The very last thing is the frequency of the ads being displayed on your blog, Google only allows you to display 3 ad blocks on any one page, so if you try to place twelve ad blocks only three will show ads and the rest won’t even be noticeable, as well you have to remember that the more ads being shown on your site takes away from the amount of money you’ll get per click, I’m unsure of exactly how this all works with Google but simply put the more ads means less money.

Now I’m not telling you to only display one ad on your entire blog to gain maximum profit, you could but you won’t be reaching maximum profit, simply because the less ads you have displayed means the less people will click on them and the less money you’ll make. The best way to deal with this is to test different ad placement on your site to see which area’s gain you the most amount of clicks while maintaining the least amount of ads, you can monitor your results in Google Adsense.

Just keep an eye on your CTR (Click Through Rate) and remember how many ads are being displayed on any particular page, you’ll eventually find exactly how many ads you should be displaying and which area’s those ads should appear. If you employ all of these techniques there is no reason why your Adsense profit should not go up.

How to Make Money with Expired Domain Names

Everybody is searching for more ways to make money successfully and efficiently in the world of online marketing and business these days. One untapped resource that you are probably not yet taking advantage of is the field of expired domains. An expired domain name can potentially earn you a great deal of cash and it can be another powerful tool to have at your disposal in your quest to be as successful as possible in the online marketplace.

First of all, you must of course recognize what an expired domain name is. It’s a domain name that was purchased by somebody else and either forgotten about or not renewed. That means that the original owner no longer has possession of it, although there may be a period of 30-45 days before it hits the open marketplace again.

As somebody looking to make money from expired domains, the first step in the process is being able to keep track of these names. You can do manual checks for this kind of thing and of course that can work although it will eat up a lot of time. The good news is that there are now many automated tools, services and sites out there that will allow you to quickly find expired domains based on dates, keywords, topics, traffic and more.

Now that you know about how to find some of these expired domains, you of course need to know how to actually go about earning some cash from them. You will have several different options at your disposal, and different situations call for different courses of action.

Perhaps the best case scenario is when you purchase an expired domain that was made into a real website and was able to establish itself somewhat. This site will have a supply of traffic already, and will also having incoming links leading to it. You can then redirect that traffic to your own website to quickly add more visitors.

An alternative in this situation is to throw up new content on that existing website that produces affiliate income or displays other advertisements. This way you can keep the site and its traffic intact for a time, but you can quickly and easily start squeezing some money out of it.

Even if the website never really was built and therefore doesn’t have any traffic, you can still quickly start earning. Build a micro-site based around the keywords in the domain, and use it either as a direct push for a product or affiliate program, or as a launching pad to your main site. Either way it won’t take you long to develop at all.

These are just a few of the ways that you can make money with expired domains. It’s all about being able to find them and being able to find the right ones. From there, you can build new content, sell affiliate products, redirect traffic and more, whichever solution is best for your particular case.

What is Pingback?

A pingback is one of three types of linkbacks, methods for Web authors to request notification when somebody links to one of their documents. This enables authors to keep track of who is linking to, or referring to their articles. Some weblog software, such as Movable Type, Serendipity, WordPress and Telligent Community, support automatic pingbacks where all the links in a published article can be pinged when the article is published.
